Belgium 20th happiest country in the world

25/03/2020

Some good news at a difficult time…. Every year around this time, the United Nations publishes a ranking of the world's happiest countries.

And for the third year in a row, Finland takes the top spot, followed by Denmark and Switzerland, even though our Nordic friends often have the impression that life is better in the South. Belgium doesn't do too badly in 20th place, just behind Austria and ahead of France (23rd). South Sudan and Afghanistan are in next-to-last and last place respectively in the ranking of 156 countries.

Which factors are taken into account?

The report, which is based on measures such as GDP, social security, individual freedoms, etc., takes into account data collected in 2018 and 2019. Covid-19 and its consequences on the quality of life of populations has therefore not yet been taken into account.
