Belgian Students earn the title of World Champions of Diplomacy

18/03/2016

Once more, Belgium excels in diplomacy. The Belgian team MUN Society Belgium comprising students from several national universities has for the 5th time (out of 7), won the Harvard World Model United Nations diplomacy competition, which took place in Rome.

This world championship is organised each year by Harvard University, and takes place in a different city each time. This year, it brought together over 2,000 students from over 100 countries. This annual event aims to gather together young people of different nationalities, social classes and cultures in order to tackle the global issues of tomorrow, topics which are also handled by the United Nations.

“It was very interesting to address problems in a completely different mind-set to that of Belgium”, explains Louise Hannecart, a civil-engineering student of KU Leuven and Chair of the Belgian delegation.

MUN Society Belgium unites highly-motivated, promising students from the whole of Belgium, with the aim of broadening their perspective and developing skills such as speaking, debating and negotiating through participation in conferences, which simulate the global operation of the United Nations. This World Champions of Diplomacy trophy joins the long list of awards, which has not stopped growing since the society’s foundation in 2005.
