The Belgian candidate for Eurovision

17/03/2022

Who is Jérémie Makiese, the candidate chosen to represent Belgium at Eurovision in 2022?

Jérémie will follow Loïc Nottet (2015), Blanche (2017) and Eliot Vassamillet (2019) in flying the flag for Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest.

At the age of 21, the singer has already had an amazing career. Originally from Antwerp, he grew up between Berchem-Sainte-Agathe and Dilbeek, before moving to Uccle. Ever since childhood, his daily life has been punctuated by his two passions: music and football. In addition to the choir and taking singing lessons, he plays at BX Brussels (Vincent Kompany's club).

In 2021, he became the new winner of The Voice Belgique with his performance of Jealous (Labrinth) and signed a contract with Universal Music. Jérémie wants to devote himself fully to his two passions, which is why he has put his geology studies on hold. His determination seems to be paying off as, in addition to Eurovision, he has just signed a contract with Excelsior Virton to become a professional football player.

At Eurovision, he will represent Belgium with the song Miss You, which comes straight from his world of soul, pop, R&B and gospel. In the video, we can recognise the city of Mons, with its collegiate church and theatre.

Will he succeed the Italian group Måneskin with this song? We will have to wait for the contest in May 2022 to find out. In any case, the song is already considered a true reflection of the contemporary Belgian music scene.
