A Belgian awarded European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019
The photographer Martin Steenhaut has won the prestigious award European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019. By photographing nature, he hopes to make each person aware of the beauty of our planet that needs to be preserved.
From the roughly thirty photographers that participated in the competition, it was the Belgian Martin Steenhaut who impressed the Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP) to become the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019. The title came to him thanks to a cloudy, almost mysterious, photograph taken during a trip in South Africa that shows a small group of giraffes in the Savannah.
Martin Steenhaut was born in Brussels and raised in Antwerp. For as long as he can remember, he has been attracted by both nature and photography, so observing nature and trying to capture its beauty quite naturally became his passion. Through his work, he hopes to put nature photography in the spotlight and make the general public reflect on all of beauty that we must protect on this planet.
His work has been awarded repeatedly during national and international photography competitions. Last year, he won the 2018 Grand Prix during the International Nature Photo of Namur Competition.
