Belgian academic named president of public hospital in Kenya

Prof. Dr. Marleen Temmerman has landed a key role at a major Kenyan hospital;

Marleen Temmerman is a Belgian gynaecologist, professor, former politician and now the chair of the board of directors of the Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya. 

Temmerman is “deeply honoured and humbled,” she said in a LinkedIn post, and “excited to collaborate with dedicated professionals to strengthen healthcare delivery, foster innovation, and enhance the wellbeing of our communities.” 

Her new role is just the latest in a series of impressive positions, like heading the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health at Aga Khan University, the UNESCO Chair on Youth Leadership, Director of the Department of Reproductive Health and Research at the WHO. That’s just mentioning part of her impressive CV. 

She has an array of accolades including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Medical Journal and the Marie Popelin Award for Women’s Rights. 

A strong Belgian woman to be reckoned with, and a great honour for both her and the public hospital.
