Two Belgian museums opening soon have come on the BBC’s radar of institutions around the world worth a visit.

The future museum Kanal-Centre Pompidou has been highlighted by the BBC as one to visit. Set to open in November 2026, the museum has found its place in a true Brussels landmark, a former car factory and showroom that was the largest in Europe at the time of its construction in 1934. The site will now be home to a museum with a noteworthy collection of art rooted in Brussels and Belgium, with 40,000 square metres of rich history to exhibit these masterpieces in.
Lucky for Kanal, the Parisian Centre Pompidou is closed and some of its major works will be coming to the new Brussels artistic stronghold, meaning connoisseurs will be able to admire some of the greats, like Picasso and Mondrian, right here in the heart of Europe.
In addition, Brusk, a museum set to open in Bruges on 8 May, received an honourable mention. The new hotspot in the Venice of the North strives to be a place “where art surprises, touches and makes people think,” proclaiming itself as an international art beacon deeply anchored in Bruges.
May both museums fare well and continue to cement Belgium’s position as an international art hub.
