The textile and clothing industry has a poor track record regarding environmental and social impact. Fortunately, awareness is increasing about the need to completely change course. Antwerp University has been entrusted with managing that.

Fast fashion refers to the rapid production, purchase, and disposal of cheap clothing, repeatedly, with significant social and environmental consequences. The carbon emissions, use of chemicals and plastics, and pollution from industrial effluents linked to this widespread trend are undeniable.
We hope that, in due time, Just Fashion will replace fast fashion. Antwerp University has been appointed by the European Commission to lead a consortium of 20 European partners driving the sustainable transition. These include three international universities, the European Fashion Alliance, the Flemish design and fashion centre Flanders DC and many others. The consortium will equip six small and medium-sized fashion companies across various European countries with the necessary skills, knowledge, tools, and guidance to achieve this.
The transformation of the fashion sector can only be deemed successful once greening, climate neutrality, circularity, and inclusiveness are realised, all while preserving creativity and viability.
