In November the World Architecture Festival (WAF) takes place in Berlin, a festival that awards prizes to the buildings that stand out most from an architectural point of view. Among the nominees there are some Belgian buildings as well.

In the category 'World Building of the Year 2017' the Antwerp Port House will be competing for first prize. Since September 2016 the Port House has been one of Antwerp's new landmarks. The ship-shaped diamond on top of the old fire station symbolises Antwerp as a world port and a diamond city.

Some of the other Belgian buildings included in the shortlist are: the Institut du Génie Civil in Liège (category 'New & Old'), the renovated Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp (category 'Culture'), Rive Gauche in Charleroi (category 'Shopping') and the Nike European Logistics Campus in Laakdal (category Production, Energy & Recycling).

Whether these Belgian buildings are able to convert their nominations into awards will be made public between 15 and 17 November in Berlin.
