Antwerp among 50 best cities in the world

Time Out has named the Belgian city of Antwerp among the fifty best cities in the world.

The celebrated lifestyle magazine has its eye on the city by the Scheldt, placing it 31st in its ranking of the top fifty cities across the globe. It is one of 19 European cities that made the list this year.

According to Time Out, “the city today is a compact, walkable playground for creatives and bons vivants,” referencing the Antwerp Six, the city’s architectural pearls, museums like the KMSKA, and of course the fact that Borgerhout is, according to them, one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.

In addition, the magazine praises Antwerp’s food and its “walkability” and declares its summer festival circuit (including Tomorrowland and Jazz Middelheim) unbeatable.

While other beautiful cities like Ghent, Brussels, Liège and Namur didn’t make the Time Out cut, we would encourage you to discover those places as well, and if you’re passing through Belgium to visit Antwerp, you might as well make the detour.

What’s your favourite city in Belgium? Do you think Time Out made the right decision?
