Abracadabra! Laurent Piron winner of the World Championship of Magic

10/08/2022

Laurent Piron from Dalhem in the province of Liège already won the 2021 World Championship of Magic in Spain. This year, the 28-year-old Belgian returns home from Canada's Quebec with the jackpot. He may now call himself the world's best magician.

The competition, however, was extensive and fierce. Laurent Piron had to compete against over 100 candidates of all nationalities in five different categories: stage illusion, mental magic, manipulation, comedy magic, and general magic. In the latter, he managed to eliminate his 30 competitors with his magic wand. He also snatched the Grand Prix, the prestigious and highest award for all categories combined. That makes him the best of the best in the world of magic. And there was more for Belgium, as the magician trio Doble Mandoble also finished second in the stage illusion category.

Laurent Piron owes his title to Paper Ball, a creation with Hugo Van De Plas, the Company Alogique and the support of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, which produces original, contemporary and artistic magic shows. With Paper Ball, an uninspired inventor in search of a brand new idea scribbles down some thoughts on a few sheets of paper, crumples them into balls, and carelessly throws them away. When the last prop suddenly begins to step, fly around, disappear and reappear, the objects come to life and lift the magician into the air. His act received a standing ovation from the audience.

Congratulations!
