There are 18 courses at Belgian universities and colleges that are among the world top 50 for their discipline. This is reflected in the recently published 'QS World University Rankings'. Last year, Belgium had 12 courses in this ranking.

The KU Leuven holds the lion's share of the Belgian entries in this list. No less than 11 courses at KU Leuven secured a place in the top 50 for their discipline. The Dentistry course achieved the best score, reaching 7th place.

The other Belgian higher education institutions with places in the top 50 are Ghent University (3 courses), Université Catholique de Louvain (2), Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (1) and Université de Liège (1).

Each year Quacquarelli Symonds creates a list of the best universities in the world, the best courses per discipline and the best faculties. In this 6th edition, 42 disciplines in 945 universities spread across 60 countries were examined. For each course, QS reviews the academic reputation, the impact of research and the employer's reputation. The advice of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers is taken into account when creating the list, along with an analysis of 28.5 million research papers and more than 113 million citations.
