A hospital on two wheels in the streets of Brussels

Did you know that nurses and midwives are cycling through the streets of Brussels to visit their patients? The Brussels-based Wheel of Care foundation is one of them.
Have you ever seen them around Brussels? These nurses and other health professionals driving sky-blue electric bikes with a big red and white first-aid kit on the luggage rack, just behind them.
Founded in 2017 by Flora Billiouw, Wheel of Care ASBL now has around 30 employees. Nurses, midwives, psychologists, dieticians… the service offer has diversified over time. The special feature of this structure is that all employees travel exclusively by electric bike to all the communes of Brussels: Brussels-city, Etterbeek, Molenbeek, Saint-Gilles…
No more traffic jams, heavy traffic, delays on public transport or going around in circles for one hour to find a parking space… All this time saved on the journey means that the Wheel of Care team can spend more time with the patient.
Sustainable, environmentally-friendly medical car at home – an innovative and ambitious Belgian concept.
