Ghent scores high for quality of life
Did you know that Ghent is officially ranked among the top cities in the world when it comes to quality of life?
Ghent, in the Belgian province of East Flanders, has taken ninth place in the category for quality of life on the new ‘Global Cities Index’ put out by Oxford Economics. The category is one of five dimensions considered in the index and “encapsulates the wellbeing and satisfaction of a city’s residents, reflecting the intersection of various socioeconomic factors.”
These factors are life expectancy, income per person, income equality, housing expenditure, recreation & cultural sites and – yes, in this day and age it’s an inevitable necessity – internet speed.
We can certainly vouch for the cultural aspect, as the city boasts numerous captivating museums, like the Roger Raveel museum (in honour of the post-impressionist artist), the STAM (the city museum), the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK) and the S.M.A.K. to name just a few.
It should also come as no surprise that a city with such a high quality of life score would be voted the top city for Erasmus exchange in 2023.
