Did you know that Manneken Pis received his 1,000th costume?

On 12 May, Brussels' favourite mascot, Manneken Pis, put on his 1,000th costume. The outfit, which was created by Brussels fashion designer Jean-Paul Lespagnard, is a tribute to the Atomium.

Because this was Manneken Pis's 1,000th costume, this was a special occasion! Brussels even broke with tradition for the first time. Usually an association donates a costume to Manneken Pis but this time the city went in search of a costume itself. The decision was made to commission a costume that referred to the Atomium, which is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary this year.

The tradition of dressing the statue has existed for over 400 years. In the past, Manneken Pis's outfit was only changed on 23 official public holidays. Nowadays, he wears a new outfit 130 days a year. Are you a real fan? You can admire over 120 costumes that Manneken Pis has worn at one time or another at the GardeRobe MannekenPis museum in Rue du Chêne.

The statue is located in the centre of Brussels, on the corner of Rue De L'Étuve and Rue du Chêne, within walking distance of the Grand-Place. Make sure to visit him when you pass through Brussels.
