Did you know that French-speaking Belgium has a higher density of art collectors than any other country?

Belgium is commonly regarded as a goldmine for its high concentration of collectors. These have often demonstrated their commitment to contemporary art by increasing the number of initiatives aimed at the public sphere: the opening of exhibition venues, a policy of supporting the production of works, etc. They are mostly French, initially attracted by the French galleries before venturing into Flanders, where contemporary art is often influenced by artists from an Anglo-Saxon or German culture.

There are several reasons that may explain why collectors are attracted to the Belgian market. Firstly, Belgium is particularly active in certain highly specific markets (African or Oceanian art, antique carpets, design). Secondly, Belgium offers many quintessential events including large trade fairs and exhibitions (Antica Namur, Brunueaf, Brafa, Arts Brussels, BAAF). Finally, Belgium offers art lovers a serious, quality market in a more relaxed atmosphere than elsewhere, particularly Paris.
