Did you know that the brewing process for non-alcoholic beer was developed in Belgium?

This unique process designed to brew beer with an alcohol content of 0.00%, is a Belgian creation. In the past non-alcoholic beers still contained a very low percentage of alcohol. Thanks to this innovative brewing process it has now become possible to develop a beer that is entirely free of alcohol, but still full of flavour.

Non-alcoholic beer has been on the market for some time. The name non-alcoholic beer, however, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Until now these beers still contained a small percentage of alcohol. In the traditional brewing process malt is fermented and this fermentation causes alcohol to develop. On first sight it seems impossible to brew beer without alcohol. The Leuven-based company AB InBev took on the challenge and found a way to produce beer that is entirely alcohol-free, without losing the authentic flavour.

This brewing process in Leuven is the only one of its kind in the world. The beer is first left to ferment and the alcohol is then removed. For the process to be successful a special filter is required to contain the ethanol molecules. The flavour develops from the sugars in the beer. The first beer to be made using this special technique is Jupiler 0.0, yet another technical achievement Belgium can be proud of. Enjoy!
