For years Rock Werchter has been a feature of the Belgian festivals. Last year it welcomed 88,000 visitors from 112 countries. In other words, it's a top international festival! With its additional one-day festivals, TW Classic and Werchter Boutique, Werchter is the perfect place to get the summer started for festival-goers of all ages. And you can join in the fun as well!
It all began in 1975 with a disco bar on Saturday evening, followed by a so-called ‘thé dansant’ on Sunday which, as its name suggests, began in the afternoon at tea time. At the time it was still known as the ‘Rock & Blues Festival’ and was held in the district of Werchter. During the last 43 editions Rock Werchter, as we now know it, has developed into a four-day festival with as many as 77 music bands.
This year Rock Werchter will rock the festival field from 5 until 8 July. You will be carried away with the summer festival spirit thanks to Belgian and international artists including Angèle and Arctic Monkeys. Like last year, in addition to the normal camping ground, you can also opt for the luxurious Hive Resort. This camping ground allows you to rent a tent, tipi or lodge that is already installed and furnished.
In tradition with the 1970s, TW Classic will be held a week after the main festival, on Saturday 14 July. The custom is for this mini festival to have a single stage and to last a single day. The main performers are experienced foreign artists plus some famous Belgian and Dutch names. The highlights this year include the Editors, dEUS and Kraftwerk.
There is also Werchter Boutique. This is a one-day festival like TW Classic and it will be held on Saturday 16 June on the festival ground of Rock Werchter. Each year a single main artist steals the show. This year it will be none other than Bruno Mars. In addition to this American star you can also enjoy performances from local talent Oscar and the Wolf, and the British bands Years and Years and Tom Odell.
Rock Werchter, TW Classic and Werchter Boutique offer a range of options for music fans of various genres. For three weekends, national and international artists will sing their hearts out on the festival field in the village of Werchter. So there's no reason at all to stay at home!
