Robert Giron, a forgotten painter rediscovered

16 July 2026 - 26 July 2026

Brussels
Belgium

He lived during the same time as Delvaux and Magritte, but never made quite the same name for himself as his colleagues. An illustrious figure brought above the radar in a radiant setting.

At Rouge-Cloître, a historical site located in the Brussels municipality of Auderghem, the works of one Robert Giron grace the walls. He dabbled between expressionism and fauvism and was often called the alter ego of Paul Delvaux, whom he met in 1910 at the tender age of 13 years old. There is certainly a strong resemblance in the way they paint human bodies.

But the title of the exhibition shows Giron’s true contribution to the Belgian art world: “Robert Giron. Peintre et promoteur de l’art.” Promotor of art. Art aficionados can discover paintings, etchings and drawings by the man who contributed to Belgium’s fame on the international art scene.

While he was active for only a handful of years as a painter, he was the director of the Palace of Fine Arts’ exhibitions division for over three decades. A veritable institution befitting for a man of his calibre.
