Registrations for the 20 km of Brussels have been a great success

This year, 45,000 participants were expected to take part in the 20 km of Brussels, and registrations quickly reached capacity.

The 45th edition of Brussels' famous 20 km race is fast approaching, and will take place on 25 May. It's the unmissable annual event for runners and walkers alike. With an elevation gain of 161 m, the route winds through the capital, taking in the Esplanade du Cinquantenaire, Avenue Louise, Bois de la Cambre and much more. The exercise is intense, but the Brussels landscape will soon have you forgetting all about the pain and cramps.

Before the stopwatch had even started, you already needed to be one of the fastest in the field to secure your place in the event. In just 20 minutes, the 15,000 individual bibs had been taken. One month earlier, 30,000 bibs had been sold for team registrations. A total of 45,000 amateur and professional athletes will be taking part in this year's event.

Last year, it was Belgium's Sophie Hardy who was the first of the women to cross the finish line (1:10:56), and Kenya's Alex Kibet came out on top in the men's category (59:57). Will last season's record be broken this year?
