Métamorphoses fills the streets of Liège with culture and creativity
Following a first, successful edition of Métamorphoses in 2016, Liège and its surroundings will now welcome all kinds of artists for another edition of the open-air spectacle. The initiative comes from Liège Together, an association that aims to shed a positive light on Liège from an international perspective. Between 9 and 13 May, Liège, Herstal, Seraing and Chaudfontaine will be transformed with culture, street acts and events.
The name Métamorphoses refers to the artistic interpretation of the new creative spirit blowing through the Liège metropolis. The programme features over 450 artists and 30 clubs that will provide free entertainment for locals, Belgians and foreign visitors. For five days they will dedicate their energy to the streets of Liège.
‘Doedel’ will fire up the long weekend with its performance of ‘La Fabrique’ on Wednesday 9 May in Herstal. The show then continues with something for everyone: a ‘zen day’ with a giant picnic and yoga lessons in the Parc de la Boverie on Thursday. The Place de l’Yser in Outremeuse will be the backdrop for some artistic performances on Saturday. The grand finale will be held on Sunday at the old industrial site of Hauster and includes a variety of family attractions such as ‘un manège fou’ or ‘une Vespa baignoire’.
The new angle this year is ‘Métamorphoses chez vous’ and involves the communities in providing their own street art a few weeks before the event. This will help to boost the community spirit in the Liège district.
The aim of the event is to position the Liège metropolis alongside Lille and Cologne in terms of culture, tourism and economy. Liège has made wonderful progress in these areas and Métamorphoses is an opportunity for the region to highlight its success.
