Inter-war sculptures exposed in Brussels
The Van Buuren Museum in Brussels has just celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, an exhibition of interbellum sculptures has been organized.

The interbellum, marked by the end of the First World War and the start of the Second World War, has strongly impacted the world of sculpture. Cubism, Futurism and Art Deco were highly characteristic of this period.
You can see works of several Belgian artists such as Philippe Wolfers, Rik Wouters and Oscar Jespers. Belgian female sculptors will also be honoured, including Yvonne Serruys, Jeanne Tercafs and even Dutch sculptor Rachel Van Dantzig. The work of international artists will also be on display, including from the Martel brothers, Ossip Zadkine and Aristide Maillol.
Several sculptures also grace the museum’s gardens, as captivating as the building itself, built in 1928.
The exhibition ‘Around Art Deco. Interbellum Sculptures’ opened on 24 April and will be available until 28 September 2025.
