Gudula26 celebrates 800 years of the cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula in Brussels

11 December 2025 - 26 March 2026
Brussels

After 800 years, this shrine of Brabant Gothic architecture in the heart of Brussels deserved a place in the spotlight. Quite literally in fact, with LUMINISCENE, an enchanting sound and light show that reveals the artistic wealth of Brussels' cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula in all its splendour. It is just one of some 35 events in a thrilling Gudula26.

This majestic showpiece of Brussels' heritage has already endured eight centuries of history. Elaborating on the entire calendar of events would be too time consuming. So, here is just a small selection that should not be missed in the exciting and diverse offer.

Fans of architecture will enjoy the 3-D projection technology in LUMINISCENE. Allowing them to admire the delightful details in the nave, walls, columns, glass windows and more. Those keen to attend the pontifical Mass to mark the grand opening of Gudula26 on Sunday 11 January, 2026, in the presence of our royal monarchs, are advised to come to Brussels early that day. As a bonus afterwards, there will be a carillon concert. More carillon and classical concerts are then scheduled for the following months. On 17 January, hunting horn players from Saint-Hubert and an organist may even blow you away with hunting melodies and fantasies. In between, you will learn a thing or two during exhibitions, lectures, a glimpse of the archives, guided tours, even a nocturnal visit to the tower. Attention: If you are afraid of heights, you are advised to stay on the ground. And then, if you still have some energy, you can always catch some relevant plays.

Gudula26 also has some fun goodies for small and older children in store. Such as the educational brochure The lantern of St Gudula, a comic strip about the history of the cathedral, a model and other commemorative items.
