Expo Brussels designer Lucile Soufflet at CID Grand-Hornu
Lucile Soufflet's art engages with users, passersby, its surroundings, the context, and the public space in which it is installed. That engagement is a defining characteristic of her work.

Benches that twist around trees or columns, others that spiral elegantly, and some designed for reclining, with contoured seats for added comfort… Lucile Soufflet has a clear fascination with inventive seating. They establish a connection with their surroundings and audience through shapes, materials, and colours. The result is never random; her artwork is always guided by context.
What applies to her benches is equally true for her other artistic expressions. This is also evident in the functional, austere, and monotonous housing blocks 2 and 6 of the Peterbos Park in the Anderlecht district of Brussels. Practically speaking, it's a maze where both residents and visitors could easily lose their bearings. Lucile Soufflet designed personalised signage in the corridors, using different wall tiles for each flat. Everything feels light and cosy.
In her studio, this designer, born in Charleroi in 1975 and a graduate of ENSAV La Cambre in 1996, also emphasises meticulous and precise work: projects made up of models, sketches, photographs, mementos, or glass and ceramic objects, often with figurative and sometimes literal angles.
Common Grounds can be seen at the Centre for Innovation and Design (CID) in Hornu, Hainaut, from 16 March to 24 August 2025.
