Every other year, in the summer, Brussels’ beautiful Grand’Place turns into a stunning flower carpet for a few days. The 24th edition is afoot.

This year’s flower layout is likely to attract waves of people (pun intended). Made up of 750,000 dahlias, the flower carpet covers 1,680 square metres. Its design is based on The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a famous woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai, adapted by Japanese artist Hiro Sugiyama and his collective. The choice for a Japanese artist is no coincidence, as 2026 marks 160 years of fruitful economic cooperation between Belgium and Japan.
In addition, for the first time ever, viewers can admire a second floral carpet outside the nearby stock exchange. As the Belgophile will know, our country has a long history of brewing, and the floral carpet outside the stock exchange honours that with a hops-inspired design. We’re positively hopping with excitement.
