A big anniversary for Brussels Pride
Big birthdays call for big celebrations. This year’s Pride Week marks the 30th time the LGBTQ+ community takes to the streets of Brussels.

Pride Week is a major event every year in Brussels, with the Pride March (on 16 May this year) being the moment supreme. The theme of this year’s Pride is “When Times Get Darker, We Shine Brighter,” calling on the community to display “visibility, solidarity and resistance” in response to hate speech and opposition to gender equality.
“For thirty years, Brussels Pride has embodied struggle, resilience and progress”, the organisation behind Pride Week points out, so this year’s theme is especially befitting. Shining brighter also means “putting people who are made invisible in the spotlight.”
All of Brussels will shine bright, with much ado throughout the city. As tradition wills it, the Saint-Jacques district in the city centre will be transformed into a rainbow village with various initiatives and events to raise awareness of the issues facing the community, but many other locations will be hotspots, like Place du Luxembourg on 16 May, or the Mont des Arts and the nearby Pride Village on Boulevard de l’Empereur, where various stands will highlight associations, organisations and projects committed to the community’s rights.
