Belgium opens its doors for heritage days
It’s September again, which means it’s the perfect time to visit some of the finest displays of heritage that Belgium has to offer.

All across the country, the Heritage Days on 13 and 14 September will highlight some of the most beautiful locations of Belgium’s different regions, with emphases on different aspects of our common heritage.
Foodies will be most interested in the Walloon region, where they are highlighting their patrimoine gourmand (gourmet heritage). From a two-hour culinary –themed walk in Namur between its castle and the provincial hotel school, to a gourmet visit of Tournai’s museum of tapestry and textile arts, or maybe an ancient breadmaking demonstration in Rochefort, plenty of locations in Wallonia have gotten creative with the prompt.
The theme in the Flemish region, the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, is “In stijl!”, focusing on architectural heritage. Art Deco lovers can feast their eyes on a special exhibition about Antwerp’s South Docks in the 1920s and 30s, whereas in Alken (in the province of Limburg), you’re taken back to the days of yore with a demonstration of pottery and statuette making.
There are too many activities to name individually but you can check them all out, with an interactive map for Flanders and one for Wallonia, both of which have included activities in the Brussels region.
Whether you choose the architectural path or the culinary one, we hope you enjoy this weekend discovering the country’s exquisite heritage.
