Anima festival goes big for its 45th anniversary

20 February 2026 - 01 March 2026
Brussels

Anima, now a household name in animated film festivals, is pulling out all the stops to make its 45th edition a memorable one.

What started in 1982 as the Rencontres du cinéma d’animation has grown into a real phenomenon, a place where lovers and artists of animated cinema can converge and revel in artistry from around the world. No less than 289 films from over 40 countries will captivate the mind between 20 February and 1 March.

The festival typically takes place at Flagey and at the nearby Marni theatre, but for this edition, Anima is branching out. Way out. With sessions at Sans Souci library in Ixelles, Muntpunt in downtown Brussels, and a community centre in Forest, you might think that’s enough but it doesn’t stop there, taking to Namur, Charleroi, Liège, Rochefort, Durbuy, Mons, Genk, Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp and Mechelen. In other words, this year, Anima is a truly Belgian affair.

In addition, visitors can feast their eyes on several exhibitions, including one that takes them through the past 45 editions of animated glory.
