75th Anniversary of the Liberation in Mons

31 August 2019 - 28 June 2020
Mons

The Mons Memorial Museum is currently offering an immersive experience at the heart of the Second World War until June 2020.

This “1944 Liberation Experience” was launched to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Mons.

Using a virtual reality headset, the visitor is immersed into a 360° film which takes them into the midst of events during the Second World War. They will relive the History in the shoes of those who were involved in the conflict: a resistance fighter, a civilian, a German soldier or even an American GI.

This project is made entirely in Mons. The films were produced by the company Magicowl and were filmed in the region in partnership with the Mons Memorial Museum. The museum wanted to break away from traditional exhibitions and by filming 360° clips with real actors and real sets, the immersion is total. No detail has been left to chance, elements inconsistent with the period that were in the filming locations were removed and posters from the time completed the sets.

In a specially-dedicated room in the Mons Memorial Museum, 16 virtual reality headsets await curious visitors who want to delve into History.
