William Cliff receives the Goncourt Prize

The Belgian, William Cliff has received the Goncourt Prize for poetry. The prize recognises all of his work.

William Cliff, a pseudonym for André Imberechts, has been writing for over 40 years. He was born in Gembloux in Wallonia and studied literature and philosophy at the University of Leuven. He made his début in the world of literature with ‘Homo sum’ – ‘Je suis un homme’. He has just released 'Amour Perdu'.

William Cliff publishes poetry as well as novels and plays. The leading French publishing house, Gallimard, has published many of his works.

Created in 1896 at the bequest of Edmond de Goncourt, the Goncourt Prize is the best known French literary prize. Several Belgian poets have appeared on the list of winners of the Goncourt prize for poetry. Liliane Wouters received it in 2000, Guy Goffette in 2010, and Jean-Claude Pirotte in 2012.
