What is your favourite Belgian actor or film?

10/02/2022

Belgian cinema has its own style. Whether French- or Flemish-language, it is possible to recognise the sometimes surreal little 'local touch'. If you like cinema, and Belgian cinema in particular, it's time to give your opinion.

Award season in the film world is beginning. The Magritte Awards ceremony on 12 February showcases the excellence of Belgian French-language cinema. It is closely followed by the Césars ceremony in Paris, which rewards films released in France and this year has three Belgian actresses among the nominees. Virginie Efira is vying for the title of Best Actress (Benedetta), Cécile de France (Illusions perdues [Lost Illusions]) for Best Supporting Actress and Salomé Dewaels (Illusions perdues [Lost Illusions]) for Most Promising Actress.

Flanders is not to be outdone, since on 12 March the Ensor gala will reward the best of Flemish cinema in Ostend.

While Belgium is well represented in the world of cinema thanks to its talented actors and actresses, this is also thanks to its directors, costume designers, sound engineers, scriptwriters... who are sometimes in demand from abroad. And people sometimes come from far and wide for our filming locations, our dubbing companies and our special effects experts.

A veritable industry is helping to spread our cultural influence throughout the world.
