Several Belgian prizes at Rose d’Or awards

Two Belgian TV shows and a podcast have won a Rose d’Or award, a prestigious international prize.

The VRT (public radio and television) shows Dertigers and Niks te zien took home the prizes for ‘best soap or telenovela’ and ‘factual entertainment and reality’ respectively, whereas the podcast ‘Batavia’ was awarded in the audio category.

Dertigers follows the lives of a handful of people in their early thirties as they navigate the various challenges typical for this age group. Niks te zien (“nothing to see”), meanwhile, features a sight-impaired host who travels with musicians like Pommelien Thijs, Selah Sue or Coely – all highly talented Belgian ladies – and Raymond van het Groenewoud, and sound and music are key on these trips.

Finally, a podcast by the Antwerp production company ‘Het Geluidshuis’ recounts the true story of the Dutch ship Batavia, which shipwrecked in Australia in the 17th century.

It’s not the first time that Belgian knowhow in TV, film and audio gets recognised. For example, Destination X won the award for ‘competition reality’ in 2023, Down the Road won the same category as Niks te zien back in 2018, and Wat Als? (“What if?”) won best comedy series in 2013, to just give a few examples.
