Outstanding success guaranteed for the Ensor exhibition Fanciful Dreams. Beyond Impressionism at the KMSKA: more than 282,000 visitors

An umpteenth tribute to James Ensor, famous Belgian and multifaceted artist, was a great success for the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp (KMSKA).

The end of 2024 was partly dedicated to the famous Ostend artist James Ensor. Indeed, from September to January, many Belgian museums wanted to highlight the artist Ensor through several exhibitions.

During four months, many visitors had the opportunity to visit the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and discover the Ensor exhibition Fanciful dreams. Beyond impressionism. The KMSKA moreover houses the biggest collection of Ensor’s work, which could explain the tremendous success of this event.

In the program: discovering the universe of Ensor through diverse masterpieces and several works by international artists he really revered and whom he matched up to. The perfect opportunity to learn more about this Belgian multi-talented artist and other famous artists such as Claude Monet and Edouard Manet.

Beyond Impressionism, Ensor wanted to bring out the context in which he lived, amid contrasts, ironies and socio-political upheavals during end of the 19th century. Enough to attract and interest a wide audience.
