More than 300 beetles bring colour to Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels

For the 16th time, the proud owners of some 300 iconic VW Beetles attended a meet-up. On the esplanade of Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels, it was one big swirl of colours: the Love Bugs Parade celebrated 60 years of Belgian VW Club.

It's such an extraordinary sight each time; a beautiful line of neatly aligned vintage vehicles. More than 20 million Beetles were sold worldwide, making it one of the most popular cars ever. That applies to us too. So it's no wonder there was a huge contingent from Belgium, as well as the Netherlands, France and Luxembourg. And owners were even more enthusiastic when asked to dress themselves or their cars up in the spirit of 1965, the year the Belgian VW Club was founded. As you can imagine, that element drew even more spectators.

At 2pm, once admirers had been given ample time to marvel at their favourite model, the parade got underway. After a 1.5-hour journey through Flemish and Walloon Brabant, they came to a halt in front of Autoworld, the national car museum at Cinquantenaire Park. Those who wanted to see even more Beetles were welcome to show up there too. With that, delicious Belgian waffles and steaming hot chocolate rounded off the colourful outing.

Beetle? Walt Disney released The Love Bug in 1968, a film starring the white, friendly but slightly cocky VW beetle Herbie.
