Leo Timmers scores with Monkey on the Run in US

Monkey on the Run by the 49-year-old illustrator and author Leo Timmers from Houthalen-Helchteren has been proclaimed one of the ten best illustrated books of 2019 by The New York Times.

Ever since 1952, a jury from this legendary American newspaper has made its own annual selection of the top ten children's books. They do this in collaboration with the New York Public Library. The winners are chosen entirely on their artistic merits.

There is no doubting the momentum in the illustrations in Monkey on the Run, with all the leaping about by the young monkey on Papa Monkey's banana-cycle. At the same time, the details in the book are food for thought and encourage you to spend more time looking at all the monkey business. So, along with the excitement and laughter, there is also careful study. The perfect way to capture children's wild imaginations. Adults are sometimes lost for words with this book with no text.

Leo Timmers is a highly acclaimed author of imaginative children's stories. Meanwhile, he is working on television animations of some of his stories.

Never before has he been asked for so many signatures at the Antwerp Book Fair than in 2019. He also hopes that this will kick-start the Dutch version, Aap op Straat, which has remained rather unnoticed until now.
