26/07/2016

The new feature film Le Ciel Flamand by the Ghent Director, Peter Monsaert, has just been named in the "New Directors" selection at the San Sebastian Film Festival. This will take place from 16 to 24 September in Spain.

Peter Monsaert and his feature film Le Ciel Flamand will be at the San Sebastian Film Festival. The film, selected in the "New Directors" category, is in the running to win the Kutxabank-New Directors Award together with 50,000 euros. This is the largest cash award presented during an international festival. The films competing in the "New Directors" category will also compete for the Youth Jury Award presented by young people aged between 18 and 25.

Le Ciel Flamand, Peter Monsaert's second feature film, tells the story of three generations of women. Within this family, Monique and her daughter Sylvie run a brothel 'Le Ciel Flamand' on the border between West Flanders and France. Éline, Sylvie's daughter, is fascinated by this place where her mother and grandmother work, but she is never allowed inside. She spends her days with her Uncle Dirk while the two older women are busy at work. A dramatic event will turn their lives upside down and put the relationships between the three generations under pressure.

The leading roles are played by Wim Willaert, Sarah Vertongen and her daughter Esra Vandenbussche and Ingrid De Vos.

Le Ciel Flamand, produced by the Lunanime film production company (created by the Lumière Group), was supported by the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) with the financial assistance of Screen Flanders. The film will be released in Belgium on 16 November 2016.
