KBR Museum in Brussels changes face

19/02/2025

The Koninklijke Bibliotheek van België Museum (KBR) will soon be reopening its doors after more than a year of renovation.

With more than 7 million works, the Royal Library of Belgium is the biggest in the country. Dating from the 13th to the 15th  century, it contains a tremendous number of books, manuscripts, engravings, coins and other objects of great value. As the national scientific library, the KBR’s mission is not only to protect and conserve this heritage, but also to make it accessible to a large public.

To reinforce this mission, the Royal Library of Belgium houses the KBR Museum since September 2020; a museum dedicated to Belgian works and manuscripts of this period, but also to the art of writing. You will learn about the different stages in writing a manuscript, discover many Belgian authors and you can even write your own manuscript.

But a reopening also means novelty and innovation. A lift takes you directly to the roof of the museum to enjoy an amazing panorama of the Mont des Arts. A number of visual and audio experiences will also be available, including an immersion in polyphony, another new thing this season.

Restoration work is still under way; the museum is due to reopen on 23 May 2025.
