Four Belgian films presented at the Dublin Film Festival

08/02/2018

The Audi Dublin International Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in Europe, will be held from 21 February until 4 March. No fewer than 4 Belgian films will be among the selection!

Every year, Ireland's largest film festival has a host of surprises in store for visitors. This year, four of the films are Belgian! Contemporary Belgian cinema has never been so well represented at this event. And as if to emphasise the unity of our flat country, two of the films are French-speaking, and two are Dutch-speaking.

On the French-speaking side, we have Tueurs (English title: Above the Law), a dark and intense thriller directed by François Troukens and Jean-François Hensgens, and Ni juge, ni soumise (English title: So Help Me God), a documentary about Anne Gruwez, the investigating judge at the Brussels' Public Prosecutor's Office. This last film is directed by Jean Libon and Yves Hinant, who are the co-producer and recurrent director, respectively, of the cult satirical series Strip-Tease.

On the Dutch-speaking side, the two films presented are Cloudboy, a family film directed by the Ghent-based film maker Meikeminne Clinckspoor, and Racer and the Jailbird, which combines the talents of director Michaël R. Roskam and actor Matthias Schoenaerts, who have already worked together on the superb films Bullhead (original title: Rundskop) in 2011 and The Drop in 2014.

Good news for Belgian cinema, which is as admired internationally as ever, and which will hopefully win one or more awards during the forthcoming Dublin Film Festival.
