Flemish short drone film popular abroad

14/03/2017

The short drone film 'Drift’ by the Flemish director and cameraman Frank Dewaele is a technological and cultural feat. The short film was largely made with a professional drone and has already earned much praise abroad. For instance in India and Spain, where it has already won prizes. It also stands a chance of being awarded a prize in Los Angeles and London.

Technological developments are moving like a fast train. When such developments lead to magnificent cultural initiatives and results, we can only but embrace them. The Flemish short drone film 'Drift' is the ultimate example of this. The film is unique due to the deployment of a drone with a digital cinema-camera and filmic zoom lenses. By the combination of technology and culture, we believe - as do others in our country and abroad - that the film has become a true gem. After having seen the short film, the Flemish director Jan Matthys asked Frank Dewaele to collaborate on the final shot of his first feature film “Vele Hemels” (Many Heavens).

The short film tells the story of Oscar. Oscar has an imaginary little friend who wants to persuade him to join her to another kind of world. In Calcutta (India) the film received the Outstanding Achievement Award and at the Madrid Drone Film Festival it was awarded with the Technical Award. Frank Dewaele should not yet lock his prize cabinet as he is likely to add to it at the Moondance International Film Festival in Los Angeles.
