A Belgian production has been nominated to win a prestigious Oscar this year. The last time this happened was in 2017.

The Belgian short film "A Sister" has been nominated for the Oscar category "Short Films (Live Action)". The psychological thriller, directed by Delphine Girard and starring Veerle Baetens, Selma Alaoui and Guillaume Duhesme, was produced by Versus Production in conjunction with RTBF.

The film notably received support from the Film and Audio-visual Centre of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (CCA), along with a tax shelter from the federal Belgian government.

Released in 2018, "A Sister" has already received many awards internationally, as well as at the Belgian Magritte Awards.

The prestigious trophy will be awarded on 9 February at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles during the 92nd Oscars ceremony.

Another Belgian production, "Little Hands", by Rémi Allier and starring Jan Hammenecker and Sandrine Blancke, was also one of the pre-selected films but it did not make the final cut.

The last time that a Belgian co-production was a nominee at the famous Academy Awards was in 2017. The film was "The Red Turtle", directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit, and it was a nominee in the category of "Best Animated Feature Film".
