The film "King of the Belgians" is among the 10 nominees for the LUX Prize

Every year, the European Parliament rewards a movie that exemplifies the universality of European values. The LUX Prize is a tremendous opportunity for the victorious film because it will be broadcasted throughout the European Union and subtitled in its 23 official languages.

Since the creation of the prize in 2007, 6 Belgian films have been selected and 2 have been awarded: "Le Silence de Lorna" by the Dardenne brothers in 2008 and "Alabama Monroe" by Felix van Groeningen in 2013. It is a committee of specialists that selects the 10 finalist films but the 736 Members of the European Parliament who form the jury have the final say.

“King of the Belgians” is the fourth feature film made together by directors Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, both coming from the documentary field. The movie tells the epic of the fictional King of the Belgians, Nicolas III (interpreted by Peter Van den Begin) who learns the secession of Wallonia during a diplomatic visit to Istanbul. He then seeks to return to Belgium but planes and communications are paralyzed by a solar storm, forcing him to cross the Balkans incognito with his small team ...
