A century of comic strips
The Belgian Comic Strip Centre is celebrating its 35th birthday with a new exhibition, looking back a century into the past.
Tintin, The Adventures of Blake and Mortimer, Spirou & Fantasio, Lucky Luke...many of the most riveting comic book characters are in fact of Belgian make. These characters we’ve grown up knowing and loving come from the hand of great Belgian artists like Hergé, Morris, and Edgar P. Jacobs.
Perfectly logical, then, for there to be a Belgian comic strip centre in Brussels and for it to celebrate major birthdays in fitting ways, in this case with a permanent exhibition.
It celebrates the now legendary characters that “quickly crossed borders and expanded beyond frames” into television and the wider world. The museum “reveals the secrets of this epic journey in an immersive, poetic, and all-ages exhibition.”
And who’s to contest that? You can certainly find us cozied up on the sofa reading our favourite comic strips from time to time!
The exhibition is a nice reminder of the rich history of comic strips in Belgium and an excellent way for new fans to discover the art form.
