Brussels Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) celebrates 25th anniversary

19/06/2025

The MIM is highlighting its 25-year presence in Old England, a striking Art Nouveau building on Mont des Arts in Brussels, with a range of activities in June.

In 1898, architect Paul Saintenoy erected the iconic iron and glass Old England department store on Mont des Arts in the heart of Brussels. It was highly innovative for the time, due to the exclusive use of these materials for both the skeleton and the facade. The result was an extremely elegant building. On the outside, you can admire the corner church and the canopy. In the inside, besides the collection, let yourself be impressed by the concert and exhibition halls, foyers, elevator gates and cage, and the belvedere with a sweeping view of Brussels.

In June 2000, the impressive collection of some 10,000 diverse, rare, and high-quality musical instruments moved to this splendid location. This is now being celebrated with a variety of exciting activities: family concerts, continuous live music in the exhibition rooms and various foyers, mini tours (also behind the scenes), a percussion workshop, a photo exhibition of reproductions from MIM archives, and the screening of MIM documentaries on traditional music in Belgium.

Plenty to do and hear for everyone!
