Belgium well-represented at Avignon Festival

31/03/2017

Once again, Avignon Festival has invited plenty of Belgian artists to perform in this city in the south of France over the summer. For 71 years Avignon has been home to Europe's largest theatre festival.

The 71st edition of Avignon Festival will be held from 6 to 26 July 2017. For an entire month this city in the south of France will be filled with all kinds of artistic performances: ranging from grand repertory theatre to captivating dance performances and classical concerts. Each year many Belgian artists are featured on the programme of Europe's largest theatre festival.

In 2017 Guy Cassiers will perform a piece about the European refugee crisis. Cassiers has been a well-known figure among European theatre producers for many years now, thanks to his unique theatrical language. As the artistic director of the Belgian theatre group Toneelhuis he has received a number of international awards. Cassiers will be joined in Avignon by others, including Antwerp's theatre company STAN and the Burkinan-Belgian choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly.
