Belgian filmmakers in competition at Berlinale 2025
A Belgian movie is in the running to win the Golden Bear at the 2025 Berlinale, an honor for Belgium, whose last appearance was in 2007.

You have probably already heard of Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani, two 49 year-old filmmakers from Brussels who are passionate about cinema and have already produced both short and feature-length films. Zoomed-in shots, a play of colors, intriguing music… these are some of the characteristics that have created their international success. Recently, they produced a new spy film, a homage to the famous James Bond films. Reflet dans un diamant mort tells the story of a former spy who thought he was just enjoying his retirement on the Côte d’Azur, but his career as a spy suddenly resurfaces… Koen De Bouw, the famous Belgian actor, is part of the cast.
Thanks to their new feature Reflet dans un diamant mort, the Belgian duo had been selected to take part in the 75th edition of the Berlin Festival’s famous official competition, also known as the Berlinale. And the icing on the cake – their film had been streamed in preview at the ceremony, a sense of pride for the two Belgian filmmakers.
As with the other filmmakers in competition, the aim was to win the Golden Bear, the Berlinale’s most prestigious award. In the end, it was the Norwegian film Drømmer that emerged victorious from the 2025 Berlinale, winning the Golden Bear.
