François Beukelaers, known for his role in the classic Belgian film “Brussels By Night” has passed away.

He trained as a theatre actor, taking the stage both in and outside of Belgium, and was most famous for his lead role in the aforementioned bleak movie by Marc Didden, but he also played in numerous Belgian series and films, like the soap Wittekerke, the police series Aspe (based on the novels by famous Belgian author Pieter Aspe), the award-winning thriller series Tabula Rasa, and the hit film Patser by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the former of whom was dubbed “the Spielberg of Molenbeek” by Time Magazine.

Beukelaers was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ostend film festival in 2023.

He once said that “life only lasts a day.” His day may have ended, but he lives on forever through his body of work. May he rest in peace.
