Following the closure of art museum MIMA in Molenbeek in January 2025, a new future looms for the iconic Brussels location.
At Quai du Hainaut, on the banks of the Brussels canal in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, the Belle Vue brewery once stood. From 2016 to 2025, it was modern art that was brewing there. Arguably two different forms of culture. Staying on brand, from October 2026, the building will serve a new, equally cultural purpose: it’s becoming a music venue.
Kurt Cobain once said the band and the audience play catch with each other, completing each other. Well, catch this: at the new music centre, which will be called “JAM Sonor powered by Volta”, both the creating and the receiving end will have something to look forward to. Musicians will be able to rehearse and record there, and fans will be able to enjoy seeing their favourite bands live.
All sorts of festivities are planned for 2 and 3 October to mark the beginning of this new chapter in the building’s history.
Now there’s only one thing left to say: let there be music!
