Angèle wins Best Belgian Act at the MTV EMA Awards

12/11/2020

With every one of her new releases, Angèle, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Brussels, has garnered incredible and lasting success.

Her most recent video "Fever", with Dua Lipa, released in early November, literally set the web ablaze as it notched up nearly half a million views in less than an hour and a half.

So it was no surprise when Angèle won Best Belgian Act at the MTV EMA Awards on Thursday, beating the other Belgian artists in the running: Blackwave, IBE, Lost Frequencies and OT. The MTV Europe Music Awards were set up in 1994 by MTV Europe to honour the best video clips of the year in Europe.

A veritable child of her time, perfectly encapsulated by her hit "Balance ton quoi", Angèle transcends musical, clothing, social or ethnic divides - just like Brussels, the capital of European urban pop; a new urban pop that no longer needs to claim an identity, a class, a neighbourhood or colours.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the awards ceremony could not be held this year, so Angèle will appear on stage next year with the 2021 winner.
