And the best film in Turin is...Belgian
‘Holy Rosita’, a film by Belgian director Wannes Destoop, has won the ‘best picture’ prize at the Torino Film Festival.
How many auteurs can boast that their feature-length directorial debut won best picture at a major international film festival? Wannes Destoop can.
Our compatriot’s movie stars Daphne Agten in her first leading role as Rosita, a woman who wants to become a parent despite her immediate environment being opposed to this idea. In the end, when she finally does get pregnant, she decides to keep the news to herself.
It should come as no surprise that a preview screening of the film was met with a standing ovation for the film and for Agten’s performance.
As for Destoop, he already has the jury prize at the 2011 Cannes Festival for his short film Badpakje 46 on his resumé.
Congratulations to the film’s star, to the director and to the whole cast and crew for this fantastic achievement!
