60th anniversary of the Atomium!

04/04/2018

2018 is a year of celebrations for the Atomium. One of Brussels' most iconic attractions is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary this year. As part of the festivities, visitors can take in the three-part exhibit Galaxy 58. The programme of festivities also includes the launch of a comic strip, a music festival, a vintage market and an old-timer parade.

People of 58 features several documents, photos, videos, objects and clothes that have never been shown before. The ADAM, the Brussels design museum, which is just 150 metres from the Atomium, is also hosting two exhibitions in conjunction with People of 58. Graphic 58 showcases the shapes, colours and textures of the innovative graphic design of Expo 58. Podium 58, meanwhile, highlights the elegance of visitors to Expo 58 on the eve of the Swinging Sixties, in a rapidly changing world.

Sourire 58 is a comic strip by the comic book artist Baudouin Deville and the author Patrick Weber. So what can you expect? A riveting geopolitical thriller with stunning heroines, East and West during the Cold War, a meticulous reconstruction of events and elegant designs. A turbulent and charming adventure, with plenty of plot twists and manipulation.

Want to experience that 1958 ambience? Then head to the 58 Vintage Market on 28 and 29 April where you can browse objects, souvenirs and vintage items at the stalls of more than 120 collectors. Put on your dancing shoes on 5 and 6 May for the Rock around the Atomium music festival. And last but not least, car buffs will be happy to hear there is also an old-timer parade on 27 May.
