Winter circus: the Ghent AI hub

28/04/2026

Have you heard of the tech hub in Ghent situated in a historical landmark that used to be a winter circus?

The earliest circus on the site dates back to the late 19th century, but the future is very much alive at Wintercircus, where over 15,000 square metres are home to “a dazzling technology hub with a thriving innovation ecosystem.” More than three dozen tech startups have found their home there, and so has a collective of changemakers, “an exceptional network of entrepreneurial minds and forward-thinkers.” All of those startups have one thing in common: they are working with what is perhaps the hottest topic these days, which is to say artificial intelligence.

The consortium behind this tech Walhalla includes the universities of Ghent and Leuven, imec, and various other major institutions.

There’s also a concert hall and spaces for events, a café and a restaurant. In other words, it’s so much more than a tech hub. The perfect setup for technology to boom and for people from the outside to sink their teeth into the fascinating world of the future.
